APPLETON — Police say a drunken woman choked her 11-year-old daughter on Sunday after becoming angered by the Green Bay Packers game.

The 36-year-old Grand Chute woman was charged Monday in Outagamie County Court with felony child abuse and misdemeanor counts of bail jumping and disorderly conduct.

Police were called about 8:15 p.m. Sunday to a Grand Chute hotel where the girl told police her mother grabbed her by the neck during the football game. The woman was drinking alcohol and became upset because the team was losing. The girl said that after the Packers lost, her mother choked her again with enough force that the girl couldn’t breathe, the criminal complaint says.

The Post-Crescent is not naming the woman to protect the identity of the child.

The woman’s husband told police she also threw her dinner on the floor, broke a lamp and attempted to punch him in the face because she was upset about the game, which marked the Packers’ first loss in 14 games this season.

The child abuse charge carries a maximum sentence of 12½ years of imprisonment and $25,000 in fines. The woman could face up to nine months in jail if convicted of bail jumping and 90 days on the disorderly conduct count. She is being held in jail on a $2,500 cash bond.

A South Carolina man's brother died after police said he was forced to eat cocaine hidden in his brother's backside.

Both brothers were taken into custody on allegations they had drugs in their car.

But police told Charleston, S.C., TV station WCIV there were additional drugs hidden in 23-year-old Deangelo Mitchell's backside.

Officers said Deangelo Mitchell convinced his brother, 20-year-old Wayne Mitchell, to swallow the ounce of cocaine to hide the evidence. He died soon afterward.

"It's sickening," North Charleston Police Chief Jon Zumalt told WCIV. "I got upset when I saw the thing. I was pretty shocked on it."

Deangelo Mitchell already bonded out of jail on the drug charge, but now police are looking for him again on charges of involuntary manslaughter.

FREDRICKSBURG, Ohio (AP) — Police say a teenage girl driving a horse and buggy in an Amish area of northeast Ohio has been shot in the head and has died.

Holmes County Sheriff Timothy Zimmerly says 15-year-old Rachel Yoder died Friday, a day after her brother found her outside their home in Fredricksburg, in neighboring Wayne County.

WJW-TV reports she was Amish and had attended a Christmas party for employees of a produce shop.

Zimmerly says she dropped off a friend before being shot about 3 miles from home. He says she fell from the buggy when the horse arrived at the home.

Zimmerly tells Wooster's The Daily-Record newspaper a bullet was found in the girl's head but no bullet holes were in the buggy and no casings were nearby.

The Amish are known for careful selectivity of technology and their peaceful ideals.
